Organizational design is a step-by-step methodology which identifies dysfunctional aspects of work flow, procedures, structures and systems, realigns them to fit current business realities/goals and then develops plans to implement the new changes. The process focuses on improving both the technical and interpersonal side of the business.
In the design process we put our attention to the more informal, intangible building blocks. Norms, commitments, mindsets, and networks are essential in getting things done. They represent (and influence) the ways people think, feel, communicate, and behave. When these intangibles are not in sync with each other, or with other fundamental building blocks, the organisation woud not work as it should.
Management process is a process of planning and/or managing the organisation, setting goals, and leading their execution. Management process often gets overlooked as it is considered an 'autopilot' mechanism when an organisation's structure has been established.
However, many organisations are dysfunctional due to their management's inability to coordinate and execute their plans appropriately and successfully.
Instead of solely concentrating on speedy and effective decision making, focusing on management process can give quick wins to an organisation that would have otherwise limited itself of its true potential.
Improving an organisation's management process often results in more openness, trust, commitment and sense of connectedness within the organization
When the right leaders have been carefully selected and delegated into their respective roles, enacting strategies that yield results becomes more feasible.
Having the right leaders enable people to work better together in creating a strategy framework that aligns with the realities of the marketplace, economy, and opposing competition. This leads to an operating process that allows the implementation of goal- oriented programs and actions, all the while keeping people accountable.
This kind of effective operating process goes way beyond the typical budget exercise of setting an organisation's goals through simply reviewing its past performance. Execution excellence is a practice that turns goals into realities.
